ARMENIAN PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY

 

OVERVIEW

The Armenian Professional Society (“APS”) was founded in 1958 for the purpose of fostering fellowship among Armenian professionals. Membership is open to anyone with a four-year degree from an accredited university and the recommendation of two paid members of the APS.

The APS activities include:

1. The granting of graduate scholarships;

2. Recognizing a professional of the year who has provided outstanding service;

3. Regularly scheduled dinner meetings and social events;

4. The granting of assistance to educational institutions in Armenia and Artsakh;

5. Supporting the Fiber Optics Laboratory at the State Engineering University of Armenia;

6. Publishing a membership directory.

 

1) GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

The APS also solicits public support from APS members and others in order to grant scholarships to graduate students. If you would like a scholarship application or would like to receive additional information please contact the APS at the address noted below.

2) PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

The Professional-of-the-Year selection shall be based on one of the following criteria:

    1. An individual who has made and continues to make a major contribution to the Armenian Community;

    2. An individual of Armenian descent who has excelled professionally in their field.

The net proceeds of the banquet and the tennis tournament are used to fund the APS grants to educational institutions and graduate students. Past recipients of this award include Archie Dickranian, Souren Saroyan, Paul Avazian, J.Michael Hagopian, Leo Garapedian, Mihran Agbabian, Richard Hovannisian, Grant Beglarian, George Deukmejian, Edward Mardigian, Charles Pashayan, Hirair Hovnanian, Avedis Sanjian, John Najarian, Karl Samuelian, Vartkes Najarian, Raymond Damadian, Louise Manoogian Simone, Armand Arabian, Rendel Levonian, Marvin Baxter, Gabriel Injejikian, Raffi Hovanissian, Armen Der Kiureghian and Alice Petrossian. If you would like to nominate a candidate for the professional of the year please contact the APS at the address noted below.

3) DINNER MEETINGS AND SOCIAL EVENTS

The APS activities include regularly scheduled dinner meetings that cover a range of professional and other topics of interest to our membership. Social events held at the residence of APS members (or friends of the APS) include the annual tennis tournament (with access to 6 to 8 tennis courts), an evening to honor our Past Presidents and an annual Christmas celebration.

4) GRANTS TO EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN ARMENIA AND ARTSAKH

The APS solicits public support from APS members and others in order to fund grants to the following five educational institutions in Armenia and Artsakh:

    1. State Engineering University of Armenia;

    2. Yerevan State University;

    3. American University of Armenia;

    4. Artsakh State University;

    5. The Institute of Architecture and Construction.

5) FIBER OPTICS LABORATORY AT THE STATE ENGINEERING UNIVERSITY OF ARMENIA

In 1996 and 1997 the Helping Hands Fund of the APS provided assistance to the Fiber Optics Laboratory at the State University of Armenia.
